Pierce moved to the Outer Banks from Richmond, Virginia when he began 9th grade at Manteo High School. He played for the tennis team at Manteo and subsequently for First Flight High School when it opened his sophomore year in 2005. He played tennis at Pine Island Racquet & Fitness often and started working at the club the Summer of his Junior year assisting Head Pro Rick Ostlund. After graduating from East Carolina University, where he taught tennis for Greenville Parks and Rec for multiple years, he returned to teaching at Pine Island and has been since.
Pierce enjoys working with all ages of students to help grow their knowledge of the game in areas from stroke technique, to mental toughness and sportsmanship. It is hard to believe that many of the kids he gave lessons to when they were 5 years old are now teenagers who can almost beat him… key word almost! He loves to see people having fun on the tennis court and takes pride in teaching a sport that can be played a lifetime and provides so many friends and life lessons.
Away from the tennis court Pierce loves to stay active. He lifts weights, golfs, and runs/bikes thousands of miles a year. Rest days are best spent at the beach soaking up the sun and enjoying all the OBX has to offer.
